Firsts crash out of Junior Shield
Carryduff Colts 0 – 3 Ballycastle United
The Colts started the game really well and had two or three efforts in the first ten minutes from the lively Sherry and the workaholic Irwin who was sadly playing his last game for The Colts before heading to Oz ( good luck big man ).
Carryduff kept pressing and reduced Ballycastle to a couple of counter attacks none of which troubled Mullholland in goals after regular keeper McCann picked up an injury at training midweek.
0-0 Halftime.
The second half began in the same vain with The Colts pressing but that final ball kept eluding them to open the scoring.
Ballycastle started getting into the game and were awarded a very dodgy penalty by the referee which they slotted away to take the lead 0-1.
Ten minutes later they went two ahead with a freak back pass which allowed their centre forward to remain on side 0-2.
After that the Colts heads seemed to go down but they still kept trying to get forward to somehow get back into the game but it was put to bed with a third from a cross which was nodded into the net at the far post 0-3, game over.
I just want to mention that it was a great effort from every player concerned to get to the last 16 of The Junior Shield but we just came up short yesterday.
Thank you to our friends at The Parador Hotel who supplied after match hospitality for both teams.
