Firsts draw with Taughmonagh
Carryduff Colts 1 – 1 Taughmonagh YM
The firsts, who have not played in the league for several weeks, came away with a deserved point against the morning league leaders.
The Colts started brightly against a very good Taughmonagh team. Chances were few for either side but it was the home side that looked dangerous on the counter attack with Rafferty, Sherry and Maynes starting up front.
The unfortunate McDaid had to come off injured after 20 minutes, replaced by McNally who was making his first appearance for a while due to injury himself. That changed the formation from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2, leaving McBride and Coyle to be the enforcers in the middle of the park.
It was the away side, however, who took the lead from their lively left winger slotting home to make it 0-1 at halftime.
The second half started well for the home side, but it was Taughmonagh who looked the more likely to add to their lead only for several good saves from Big Mac McCann.
A double substitution of Turkington and Brownlee sparked the home side to press for the equaliser and it came with a delicate chip from Brownlee to Sherry whose shot fell to McDonnell who squared it to McNally who thumped the ball home to the delight of his coaches and team mates 1-1.
Taughmonagh pressed and pressed after that to try and get the winner to keep them at the top of the league but heroic defending from Sweeney, O’Toole, McDonnell, Murphy and Big Mac saw the game out for a very good point against a very good team.
