Carryduff Colts U14 A 1 v 1 Aquinas

Carryduff Colts U14 A 1 - 1 Aquinas
23 Jan 2016 - 09:30Lough Moss

A change in shape today but still the same outcome , creating lots of chances but not
converting them and being punished at the other end.

A fast start where we should have taken the lead inside the first minute after great work in midfield from Harry Graham which allowed Niall Tunney to slip Rory Timoney in at the right hand edge of the 18 yard box Rory beat his man and hit a great shot across the keeper which rebounded back off the post.

Odhran Sherry was causing problems down the left and after a neat exchange with Joseph Tunney put him in the clear he hit from 20 yards with the keeper doing well to keep out , Rory Timoney who was in fine form today and had the beating of his man had another great chance down the right and dragged the ball just wide with another fierce drive.

It looked at this point if we got one we would get four or five, Eamon Swail was linking well with Rory down the right and had a good effort from the edge of the box when clean through maybe should have taken another touch , Rory Timoney was having a super game and beat his man and cut inside when clear he played in Odhran Sherry who had strayed off side.

Rhys Worthington who joined on Thursday started the game at centre back beside Matthew O’Rourke and they looked in control
Aidan Martin moved into midfield and added his height and presence dominating the Aquinas midfield and putting us on the front foot.

Declan Magee was unlucky not to get on the score sheet after good work down the right Rory beat his man and crossed to the back post with Declan stretching and just failed to get a toe to it , it looked only a matter of time before we got the goal our football deserved.

However Aquinas then scored just before half time with their first real attack from a long ball over the top the striker ran on and slotted into the corner off the net with a calm and composed finish.

We made a couple of changes with Jamie Wilkinson coming on for Niall Tunney and Joe Tolan for Eamon Swail the pair combined down the right when Joe beat the defender and pulled the ball back for Jamie to side foot home only for the defender to make a great block.

Rhys Worthigton moved into midfield and put in a man of the match performance on his debut adding a bit of controlled aggression and quality on the ball with his penetrating runs.

Rory Gorman replaced Odhran Sherry at left back and Matthew Winchester came on for Declan Magee we then went with 3 at the back and pushed on looking for an equaliser
Matthew Winchester having a couple of efforts which fell on his left foot saved by the keeper when he maybe had more time to pick his spot.

Harry Graham who had an excellent game and was linking well with Rhys and Jamie in midfield then got a deserved equaliser after the keeper made a good save from Harry he showed great determination to get to the knock down and force home to give us a chance to get all three points .

Ewan Wilson then made a great block when we where caught on the break he came off his line and smoothered the shot making himself big and hard to beat , we had a great chance to win it when Rhys played in Gary Topping who has been in great form recently but he put his and the final chance just past the post.

This match just summed up our season we are dominating games with some super football but just failing to convert our chances.
