The Colts finished off the season with their best performance of the year. A 5–1 win against Cavehill Colts at Mallusk.
Right from the kick off we dominated this game with the team determined to end the season on a positive note.
The Colts had the better of the possession in the early phases of the match but it was 15 minutes before Jack Murray opening up the scoring, rounding the keeper nicely to slot the ball into an open net. The remainder of the first half saw the Colts control the game with Luke Taylor and the back four ensuring Cavehill were limited to a very few chances.
It was only in the last few minutes of the first half when we stamped our authority with 2 goals in the last 2 minutes of the half. Eoin Haigney picked up on a bad clearance in the Cavehill defence and placed a lovely chip over the keepers head.
Rory Thompson finished off the half with a rasping shot, leaving the keeper no chance. Half time score 3 nil.
The second half was a more balanced affair with Cavehill pushing for an early goal.
Cavehill had a few chances before James Rodgers effectively finished the game off with a good finish from just outside the box.
Cavehill pulled a goal back with a well taken header and only for a number of fine saves from Sean McCaffrey the game could have been closer. Conor Mulgrew scored the fifth and final goal with another fine finish after a good all round performance.
A final chance fell to Eoin McGleenon, a contender for man of the match but a goal line clearance denied him a well-deserved goal. The game finished 5-1 and a fitting end to the season.
Finally the coaches would like to thank all the players for their attitude and commitment throughout the season. The support of the parents has also been very much appreciated.
