St. Mary’s C 3-2 Carryduff B
Valley Leisure Centre
Sat 16th Sept 2017
A very tight and entertaining match between 2 very well matched teams who have both moved up 1 division.
With so many new faces this year, it will take a while to fully click as the boys get used to new positions etc, but it’s looking like fantastic potential for the year ahead.
We started well and took the lead through nice build up play from Jamie who released Max for an assured finish.
Some indecisive defending led to a St. Mary’s equaliser 5 minutes later, and then their lead was doubled from another series of silly mistakes.
Carryduff continued to press and played some fantastic passing/possession football. This led to an equaliser following a sublime scooped pass by Seb (in his first ever match for Carryduff having only just arrived last week) over the back 4 with Max sprinting between the lines to slot past the oncoming keeper.
Hearts were in mouths as it hit the left upright, rolled along the line and settled just inside the far post. We continued to press and really ought to have been clear ahead.
It really looked like we had our first win in sight, but our pace dropped in the second half and we were unable to take the lead.
With only 2 minutes remaining St. Mary’s took the lead having already hit the crossbar only minutes earlier and we missed out on the chance to post our first win of the season.
Man of the Match: Finn Mills, another new boy who has settled into the team so well in such a short time.
